Little Sparrow – Alone: Single Review

The new single from Little Sparrow continues the countdown to her new album.

Whilst we patiently await the release of the Feather Moon album, Little Sparrow resurfaces briefly with a new single. We’ve already loved her recent releases (Tears single) (Corner Of The Room single). Alone continues to heighten the anticipation of the new album.

It’s out on 9th July via the usual digital outlets and we can report that Alone picks up on the deeper and darker direction that’s been promised. Inspired by the novel The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, Alone explores the sensation of being lost. Being alone in the darkness, desperately trying to escape, it begs the question of whether we are ever truly alone.

If the word ‘haunting’ doesn’t fit the bill, I don’t know what does. The stark vocal is placed initially against a low string droneand the acoustic guitar gives an almost medieval feel. However, the ominous intensity builds into something much more rich and powerful. The sort of tuned percussion and textures you’d find in Enya’s work is accompanied by the rapidly increasing pace in both rhythm and tension.

As for the video which was probably great fun to make – beware – could be the stuff of nightmares.

It’s been too long since the Wishing Tree album (2014!!) gave us the pleasure of a Little Sparrow collection. On the evidence from the glimpses of the new material we’ve had over the last eighteen months, Feather Moon can’t come soon enough.
