We were introduced Dominic Sanderson’s work as him being very much of a solo as on his 2023 album Impermanence On Blazing Revelation, he is enlists band members Jacob Hackett on drums and percussion, Tristan Apperley on bass guitar and violin, adding Embiye Adalı on all manenr of keyboard – Mellotron, Hammond organ, clavinet, Fender Rhodes, piano, – Andy Frizell on alto, tenor and baritone saxophone and flute. Matthew Sanderson collaborates with Dominic for the vocals on Lullaby and utilised his artistic skills for the album artwork.
COMPLEX STRUCTURES
From the outset, this youthful quintet show their freedom to tackle complex instrumental structures but set within firm foundations of 70’s prog . Fast paced and jazzy, the baffling time signatures blend with smoother melodic moods of Caravan, Floyd, Genesis and Yes who all seem to get homage paid to them. However, Dominic combines all these different influences to produce the highly listenable opener, From The Weeping Cradle.
The hypnotic shimmering sounds which open Faithless Folly evolve into music purely from the Canterbury Scene much of which could easily be inserted into any early Caravan album particularly the vocal delivery yet they stamp their own authority with fiery guitar and keyboard work.
EERY BUT MELODIC
Rite Of Wrongs begins eerily but develops to emphasise melodic vocals played around some wistful Gabriel style flute. The final track emerges with some melodic vocals, dreamy ethereal instrumentation gathers pace with more menace and demonic vocals. The tempestuous instrumental briefly calms before suddenly erupting again .
The constant fluctuations are a strong feature of all of Dominic’s music offering both delightful surprises and shocks along the way revealing what an accomplished composer he is.
