FloodHounds – Psychosemantics – Live At Ameritz: Single Review

FloodHounds

Following a string of increasingly successful singles for the Sheffield rock trio over the past few years, the most recent addition to their ever growing rock catalogue comes from a live recording for Ameritz of their most popular single: Psychosemantics.

Release Date: 18th June 2025

Format: Digital

If you are a fan of Queens of the Stone Age, Royal Blood, The White Stripes and similar, FloodHounds are for you. The opening riffs of their 2023 single Psychosemantics once again exemplify the classic high energy, indie rock sound the band represent through a new live version. Despite the influence of earlier rock bands being evident throughout, FloodHounds provide their own modern, Yorkshire twist on this indie rock and roll that is always so popular.

ELECTRIFYING ENERGY

Catchy riffs and electrifying drumming lace the single, and when coupled with powerful lyrics and vocals – the sound becomes captivating. This live version further captures the intensity and energy of the 2023 single; from the extended outro, added build, and backing vocals – everything combines in this song to assert itself as a catchy, high-energy hit for the band and showcases their range of talent. It’s impossible not to find yourself bopping along to the riff even hours after listening.

The high energetic chorus rich with powerful vocals and high intensity instrumentation further develops the song and emphasises the core themes in this version. With impactful vocals “save me, from me” and “get me out of this”, echoed by formidable drum beats and basslines, this all contributes to the illusion the title “psychosemantics” suggests of internal conflict, struggle for meaning in the mind and inner turmoil.

THE FUTURE

After playing across the country at festivals such as Liverpool Sound City and Tramlines, having support slots from the likes of Kid Kapichi, and having a string of singles included by BBC Introducing, FloodHounds have to be considered one of Sheffield’s most promising, upcoming bands currently. With their website hinting at future gigs and new music, it’s always exciting to see what this band has coming next as they are definitely not slowing down any time soon.
