Eighty Ninety – Hollywood Dream: Single Review

Dreamy, cinematic sounds from Indie/pop duo Eighty Ninety.

Release date: 1st August 2025

Label: self released

Format: digital

Indie-pop duo Eighty Ninety burst back into the music scene with their highly anticipated single Hollywood Dream. Combining electrifying guitars and whispering lyrics, it creates a cinematic rom-com vibe that crowds can’t resist.

The duo, made up of brothers Abner and Harper James, explain that the song is about “the thrill and longing that can consume a relationship until you start to wonder if that intensity is love or just addiction.” This is shown through the heartfelt lyrics “a summer teenage feeling” and “summer love” – emphasizing how they need to make it worthwhile even though it’s a summer fling.

DREAMY, CINEMATIC VIBES

A key moment is the bridge with Abner’s exclamation of how he doesn’t want this situation to change even though it’s a summer fling. It shows the longing to be with her and the desperation to stay in their own world – the Hollywood Dream.

The brother’s music style consists of something they call ‘808’s and Telecasters’ – the combination of acoustic instruments and electronic sounds. This sound caused shock waves when they released their debut EP, Elizabeth consisting of the viral hit Three Thirty. Since then, the duo have amassed over 40 million streams and earned praise from the music giants such as Alternative Press and Billboard solidifying their place as indie/pop favourites.

While there are no definite plans for an album drop, the duo have hinted at “more to come” on their Instagram so definitely watch this space.
