Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Waldo’s Gift – The Albert Hall, Manchester – 27th February 2026
WALDO’S GIFT
There is something about Albert Hall that makes music sound so special especially Psychedelic music, it feels bigger and more alive. Maybe it is the architecture of the building or the way that the building feels like it seems to breathe with the crowd. Whatever it is, it was a perfect setting for Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ return to Manchester.
Waldo’s Gift walked onto the stage with a quiet confidence, a confidence that hooks audiences in before they even start playing. When they started performing the whole venue erupted, I have been to many gigs around Manchester but not once seen an audience with this much energy.
THE THRILL OF IMPROV
They mentioned that early on in their music careers they used to make their music live on stage, even if it did not always sound good on stage. Mid set, they created a song on the spot. No rehearsal, no safety net just instinct and trust inn one another. Hearing the song grow and feed off the audience felt hypnotic to listen to. There’s a thrill in watching musicians improvise at this level. Every choice matter, every mistake becomes part of the song, blending into the song. Waldo’s Gift did not just pull it off they made it feel effortless.
The room shifted from curiosity to awe and by the time Waldo’s Gift have finished their set I knew that they are going to be a band myself and many of these audience members will keep a eye out for. Everyone knew that they have just witnessed something that would not happen the same way again. There couldn’t have been a more perfect opening for a night that has just started.
PSYCHEDELIC PORN CRUMPETS
The energy snapped into something electric the moment Psychedelic Porn Crumpets stepped on stage. The layering of the guitars and synths created a thick, immersive sound that almost felt physical. Their vocals buried underneath the instruments adds a ethereal, psychedelic feel to the music which really helped fuel the audience energy.
Their songs feel like they are constantly threatening to spiral into madness yet they never lose control. The visuals helped, the lighting pulsed and warped with the music. At times it felt like the whole room was vibrating, like the wall themselves were a part go the rhythm and fuelling the energy of the room. The crowd did not just watch, they surrendered. People danced, jumped, shouted and let themselves get swept with the music. There was moment where the entire room moved as on and moments where people seemed lost in their own little psychedelic universe.
A SENSE OF FREEDOM
What tied the night together was the sense of freedom. Both Waldo’s Gift and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets brought such a intense energy to the venue that night. Both bands were able to make you feel like you were stepping outside the everyday world and stepping into a stranger and more colourful. The Albert Hall amplified everything. This is the kind of show that leaves you buzzing long after you leave the show and making you wish you did not have to leave at curfew.
Walking out of Albert Hall and back onto the street of Manchester, the streets felt a little too quiet and still. For those few hours it felt like I was in a completely different universe and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets weren’t just performing, they were taking us on the journey and Manchester was more than happy to go along for the ride.
