The leading one-day folk festival, Folk By The Oak, made its annual return to the sunny gardens of Hatfield House a memorable one with a varied lineup of folk and not-so-folk acts.
FOOTBALL FORGOTTEN
The organisers of Folk By The Oak will have breathed a sigh of relief that England missed out on the World Cup final which threatened to disrupt the evening. As it was, the football was forgotten in favour of a splended variety of music from all corners convened in the leafy gardens of Hatfield House in Hertfordshire.
Musically there was something for everyone, from the deafening Seasick Steve’s electric blues to the delicate songs of Olivia Chaney. Spell Songs – a global supergroup which was originally put together for this festival – debuted their new album – watch out for review on At The Barrier shortly.
A DAY OWNED BY THE SCOTS
But the day was owned by the Scots, with the breathless concertina-led dance of Talisk on a mission (mission accomplished) in getting the main stage audience on their feet while the EDM-meets-bagpipes energy of Valtos filled the Acorn stage with a bouncing crowd.
With the likes of Karine Polart, Julie Fowlis, Jenn Butterworth and Kris Drever also gracing stages through the day, Hatfeld was transformed into Glasgow for the afternoon.
