Jimmy Eat World celebrates 25 Years of Bleed American kicking off their UK your with a sold-out show at The Piece Hall in Halifax.
THE UK GOES OFF!
This was the gig of the summer I was waiting for at The Piece Hall. Jimmy Eat World kicked off their three-date UK tour in Halifax on 14th August, celebrating 25 years of their album Bleed American. The sold-out Halifax show was phenomenal! The band said, “It’s always a bummer when we have to go back and do shows in America, as the UK crowds always go off!” – and that we did! From start to finish, everyone was singing every lyric and having the time of their lives. I felt like a teenager again as my teen stood beside me singing every word.
BLEED AMERICAN
The Bleed American album was such a staple in so many Punk-Rock, Emo, and Alternative fans’ collections back in 2001. They stood out to me with their punk rock riffs, emo vocals, and melodies. The album has stood the test of time, with The Middle and the title track often being played in alternative bars across the UK.
The Middle has been my anthem since it came out 25 years ago! Throughout my life, it’s held meaning through all I’ve gone through, good and bad. Like an old teenage friend who’s had my back since day one.
The whole band uniformly played through all the tracks in perfect harmony, like a tightly practised group of musicians professionally done with precision. I’ve been keeping up with their videos about the album online, and you can see just how serious and dedicated they are to their craft.
The Get Up Kids and Rise Against were support, and they too gave it their all. Both bands are headliners in their own rights, so as you can expect, the night built up like a pressure cooker with each band that performed. The night was filled with crowd surfing and pure nostalgia.
I had the time of my life photographing and reviewing the show. I knew I would, but it was everything and more than I anticipated! My only wish is I could be at every show.
