VULNERABILITY AND OPENNESS IN THE LYRICS
Indie/alternative duo Good Health Good Wealth are keeping momentum high with their latest single ‘I Forgot’. After their successful summer igniting crowds from Glastonbury to Truck and opening the 40,000 capacity Chevron Stage at Reading and Leeds Festival only last week, it’s clear the duo aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
I Forgot takes inspiration from AM- era Arctic Monkeys as the foundations for the unfiltered lyricism from frontman Bruce Breakey. It’s emotional, raw and vulnerable – a complete change from their previous single ‘White Men’ which highlighted Saturday highs whereas ‘I Forgot’ highlights the crash into Sunday lows. The track captures the decline in Breakeys mental state as he attempts to counteract the party lifestyle. For me it’s almost as if he is talking into a mirror. Bruce is having to be confrontational with himself no matter how uncomfortable or uneasy it is in order to turn his life around.
Bruce describes the songs as “a hard track to write” and how its a song that he keeps “circling back to as it crops up so often in mine and my friends daily lives as we continue to repeat certain patterns.” It counteracts their previous single White Men which highlighted Saturday highs whereas I Forgot highlights the crash into Sunday lows.
This is show in the lyrics; “But I could go out for one,” which uses dark humour to debate going out or not while also highlighting how easy it is to come off the rails.
THIS TIME NEXT YEAR WE’LL BE MILLIONAIRES…
This Time Next Year We’ll Be Millionaires is the debut album focusing on the highs and lows and somewhat normality of Breakey’s week. It is due later this year. As well as the album, the duo are set to go on tour kicking off in Leeds and ending in Dublin. Be sure to get your hands on tickets as four of the eight days are completely sold out.
The duo are clearly here to stay whether you like it or not.
