Blue Rose Code is the ever-evolving musical collective that provides the creative platform for Ross Wilson’s superlative songwriting, and inspiring performances live and on record. Blue Rose Code has developed into a seven-piece band supporting Ross, including a brass section, and has been impressing audiences with their incendiary live shows, including a series of very well received festival appearances last year, that included the Cambridge Folk Festival.

Ross has gone into the studio to record a new set of his songs with the band, including other special guests such as Eddi Reader. Many of these songs have been road-tested live, and the new single Jericho from the forthcoming album, explodes out of the speakers with that crackling live energy. Musically, Jericho has the feel of a classic Stax Records Memphis soul song, courtesy of the driving rhythm section of Stuart Brown on drums, Gus Stirrat on bass, and Lyle Watt on guitar. Add in some striking unison brass melodies played by Paul Towndrow’s horn section, and Paul Harrison’s rolling piano motifs, and you have an absolute soul classic.

Ross’s vocal on Jericho has that very special delivery that conveys passion, and emotional meaning, to the words of the song. Words that conjure up the freedom and release of being joyful in the moment, and which are a perfect encapsulation of the experience of being immersed in great music performed live. The call and response vocal sections and hand claps underpin the classic soul vibe that inhabits every part of this very winning new song.

The eagerly anticipated new album is due for release in early May. This new single makes it clear that the album will be a committed musical statement of intent, by a wonderfully talented songwriter and performer, that the rapidly increasing fan base for Blue Rose Code can really look forward to. The new single also forms part of a limited edition signed CD EP, which includes a live version of Sadie, one of the songs from the new album.

The release of the new album will be supported by a series of UK wide shows, and Blue Rose Code live is something not to be missed. Here is the official video for Jericho, featuring tour diary clips.
