Essex root rockers Jamie Williams & The Roots Collective return with a fine set of tunes.

Label: Self Released
Format: CD / vinyl / digital

Having reviewed Jamie Williams & The Roots Collective Diff’rent Gravy LP in 2018, I was expecting a rootsy bluesy album but the sound of the band has noticeably evolved in the last six years moving towards a more sixties garage sounds with hints of soul music. The driving bass line of I Don’t Know The Answers starts the record on an upbeat note that channels early Move 45’s while Bad Blood with its surf guitars grooves along nicely. To Yourself channels mid-seventies Neil Innes and we are back in garage rock territory with the rollicking Love That’s True.
The soulful I’m So Sorry I Could Cry features again some great guitar work and Box Marked Fragile features some interesting song arrangements that make it one of the highlight of the record. The soul rave up of School Of Hard Knocks is bound to get audiences bouncing during the gigs. More great funky guitar work courtesy of Dave ‘The Hat’ Milligan on D’You Ever Get The Feeling while Live To Fight Another Day offers a sparser proposition which sees the return of the harmonica that so present on Diff’rent Gravy. The gentle Living The Dream, a more reflective number precedes a rocking live track titled Ride With Me, a bluesy blues rock shuffle that’s guaranteed to go down a storm in a live setting while the solo acoustic One World closes off the album on an intimate note.
