The Trousers are a Hungarian indie-garage rock band based in Budapest. Their second LP Soul Machine from 2010 was nominated as “The best hard rock/HM album of the year” in Hungary. For trivia buffs, they may well be best known are most noted internationally for their songs used in the Hawaii Five-O TV series.
Their most recent single, Second Hand Suicide gives an insight into what to expect from their forthcoming album, the follow up to 2022’s Animal Gun.
Singer and guitarist Zoltán “Dr Buffalo” Kőváry from the band joins us for a Why I Love on , rather appropriately at this time, Black Sabbath.

a timeless inspiration
I have dozens of bands who influenced me, but Sabbath is a timeless inspiration. They created not just an entire genre, but a new culture, a whole new universe. Tony Iommi is the No 1. rifflord, the rhythm section is breath-taking, and Ozzy is very unique. Tony Iommi is simple unbelievable, my absolute hero. The band developed in depth and complexity from album to album, integrating the heaviest riffs with deep feelings, which make them tireless. They are not just one good band, but three, the Ozzy-era, the Dio-era and the Tony Martin era.
I first heard them in high school. One of the guys copied Heaven And Hell on a cassette for us (me and my bother), but later I heard Paranoid, Master Of Reality and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, which absolute turned me on.
Sabbath was always among my top 5 bands beside The Stones, AC/DC (Bon Scott era), Judas Priest and The Hellacopters. But last year when I heard Into The Void by a tribute band in a big hall in a large audience, I realized that Sabbath is THE band, and since then I got more deeper in the catalogue, although I have been loving them for 35 years.
the dark side
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is so deep in my unconscious, that sometimes I write riffs and songs and later I realize that they contains elements of that album that ‘introduced me to my mind’. I never intend to write songs like Sabbath directly, because The Trousers, my band is rather a rock and roll band than doom or metal, but heaviness and dark psycho-mysticism always inspire. I create songs like Cheap Trick or The Stones that can be performed by acoustic guitar, but it always contains the heaviness of riffs and the dark side of existence in the lyrics, so we try to integrate dark and light, heavy and easy. That kind of complexity keeps us fresh.
favourites
My favourite songs are NIB, Into The Void and Symptom Of The Universe best album is Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. My favourite lyrics is You Won’t Change Me from Technical Ecstasy, the best cover for me is Vol. IV and the self-titled first LP.
I saw Sabbath twice, in 1988 with Tony Martin and Cozy Powell, with the Headless Cross tour which I admire. Then at the farewell tour with Ozzy and Geezer, both concerts in Budapest. Also saw an Ozzy show with Zakk Wylde in Nurnberg, Germany in 2002, Rock Im Park festival. I once met Ronnie James Dio on the streets of Budapest, when Heaven And Hell played here, but unfortunately I was to shy to approach him, although he was legendary lovely with fans.
Our thanks to Zoltán for a timely WIL.
