The Deadmans – Nice Kid: Single Review

Alt-pop newcomers The Deadmans release their new single Nice Kid.

THE PERFECT DEBUT

Alt-Pop newcomers The Deadmans have released their debut single Nice Kid and itโ€™s an absolute hit

Written and recorded in multiple countries with added love for the drums, being recorded at Up Top Studios in St Albans, Nice Kid is a perfect debut track. Itโ€™s groovy and light, showing similarities musically to Wet Leg especially with the gritty electric guitar. Lyrically, it heavily reminds me ofย  Paramore/Wet Leg.

Lyricist of the band LaurenSage Browning says โ€œI spent several years of my twenties trying to shapeshift myself to match the rooms I was in instead of breaking down the door and running to places where I could exist without all the magic tricks.โ€ Browning then goes on to explain some of the experiences she had and how they inspired her to write this track – showing how the music world isnโ€™t all glitz and glam.ย

GET OUT QUICK

The track talks about being stuck in the wrong rooms with the wrong people when you know you’re made for more. It urges you to get out quick before that exit door is bolted shut, restricting you from getting to where you want to be in life. As a creative, this really resonates with me in the sense thatย  to get where we want to be, we have to outgrow the confined spaces we are in to bloom through our creativity instead of shaping ourselves to something we are not just to fit it and appear โ€œnormalโ€.ย

Considering this is The Deadman’s first track, it’s insanely good. It’s highly addictive and super catchy so I cant wait to see what more they have coming up with more singles and hopefully an album.

A video is also paired with the track made by band members Harry Deadman and LaurenSage Browning, with cinematography by Maximilian McKay, starring other band member Nikki DeParis. Harry says โ€œThe video takes the central theme of โ€˜Nice Kidโ€™ (being mismatched with your environment) and digs into LaurenSageโ€™s midwest roots, offering the opportunity to go back to our artistic origins and tell a story of escapism that acts as the inciting incident for the entire project.โ€
