Dimscûa release Dust Eater on vinyl, cementing their 2025 debut as a prime piece of post rock / metal / sludge full of emotional turmoil.

DAMNATION
“Let’s get it off the laptop, put it out there for people that know about us, see what happens. Maybe we’ll play a couple of shows”. Interviewed by Stewart Lucas at Damnation Festival (here) in November, the modesty of Berkshire post-metal/atmospheric sludge band Dimscûa (dim-skew-ah, Anglo-Saxon for “darkness”) is immediately striking.
The band were last-minute additions to the line-up after Damnation chief Gavin McInally contacted them on social media to fill in and the band have received strong support on the 2 Promoters 1 Pod podcast.
As a result their June 2025 debut, Dust Eater, which has recently seen released on vinyl through independent label Big Scary Monsters. It has gained a large following and a live version recorded at St. Mary Magdalene’s Church, Boveney is available on their Bandcamp page.
THE DEBUT
Themes of grief and loss run through the album, but are conveyed in a powerful and engaging manner that draws the listener in and invites them to truly experience the recording.
Opener Elder Bairn sets an atmospheric tone before Alex’s vocals kick in; “Cold / Surrounded by death / Corrupted by life”. The sheer emotion of the opener leads us into The Dusteater with its vocal refrain; “You fell too far / You sang too loud / Loved too hard”.
Existence/Futility changes the pace a little but it is no less engaging before closer On Being and Nothingness. Listeners who have experienced their own losses and who have their own stories of grief cannot help but feel a connection with the band as they share theirs.
Notably, the album is dedicated to Rosemary Kennedy Campbell-Train; the dearly departed eldest daughter of guitarist Adam Campbell-Train.
SPRING TOUR
Overall the album sounds very little like a debut release. The sheer sonic experience of Dust Eater is that of an accomplished act, and is testament to the musicianship but also the technical skill on display here. The live version (see below) is also worth checking out. Dimscûa are opening for We Lost the Sea on their May tour dates across the UK. Be sure to get there early!
