Banter – Unquiet Grave: Video Premiere

Already firmly established as one of the UK’s finest bands, Banter release their third album on Mrs Casey Records today (our review here). We are honoured to present to you the video premiere of the bands new ‘single,’ Unquiet Grave.

Already firmly established as one of the UK’s finest bands, Banter release their third album on Mrs Casey Records today. With two well received albums behind them this new release ‘Three’ sees the trio diving into the realms of traditional material with a very noticeable twist in its tail. Three is a truly wonderful album – great, great fun, and a pleasure from start to finish.

Banter comprise Simon Care on melodeon, Nina Zella on keyboards and vocals and Tim Walker on drums, percussion, brass, vocals and dance calling.

We are lucky to share with you today, the bands brand new video for Unquiet Grave. The song features Phil Beer (Show Of Hands) and is a famously traditional folk number that has a long lineage, like any good folk song. The song has been interpreted by many artists including Joan Baez, Kate Rusby, Steven Wilson, Ween and Bellowhead. Banter’s iteration is delivered with their unique style; the ethereal video pulses with the music throughout as it builds towards its crescendo.

Check out the video below.

If you’re still not convinced, allow Fairport Convention‘s Simon Nicol let you know what he thinks of Banter…

Banter are a continuing problem for me.  As they grow stronger and more confident in their unique voice, I still don’t know which I prefer: the effortless, irresistible danciness of it all, the lightest touch disguising the strongest pulse; or the strange beauty of the songs – all quirkiness and silk.  Both these elements are reinforced on the (extremely well recorded) new waxing – so you can share my dilemma yourselves.”

Simon, as always, has hit the nail squarely on the head.
