After the success of Jamie Webster’s debut album, We Get By, which landed a UK Official Albums Chart Top Ten berth, he releases his follow-up, Moments. One which will be destined for similar success, Moments is an exuberant listen from beginning to end.
Webster’s powerful vocals and lively songs with top quality arrangements are a breath of fresh air to the current crop of potential chart success searchers. Jamie’s upbeat and vibrant album blends political and social concerns in his lyrics and crafted highly-listenable tunes.
A deep Duane Eddy style riff backed by an orchestral soundtrack grabs your interest immediately on the opening track with Jamie telling the dramatic story of Davey Kane. Throughout, Webster’s vocals are crystal clear. The full sound fills every space in your head on its catchy follow ups; Days Unknown and Knock at my Door.
Jamie is unashamedly trying to create a new sound which is original, distinctive and a cut above the rest. North End Kid begins with simple cheery vocals and guitar strumming cheerily and then….. wallop… in come strings and keyboards lifting up the sound magnificently.
Title track Moments, Going Out and What’s Wrong continue the jolly rhythm and captivating beat, each song would, in the past, have been stonewall chart hits. The album is complete with a real rocker shuffling along apace asking What More? which despite its foot-tapping rock n roll flavour pertinently questions what are we going to face next in our topsy turvy, badly led state.
New artists often stumble after a successful debut album but Jamie Webster is going from strength to strength. If your looking for a change from grim ballads, seemingly empty love songs and vocals that one might say are whiny, he’s the guy to listen to. Jamie’s chirpy personality pervades throughout; it will cheer you through the winter months.
