The Fierce And The Dead release their first single in four years. It’s out now via the usual streaming services and Spencer Park Music.
Great to hear Matt Stevens and the boys back and making new music. Wonderful is the first music to feature vocals from bassist Kevin Feazey with sax from Terry Edwards (PJ Harvey, Spiritualized, Faust). The track comes from the upcoming fourth album News From The Invisible World, that’s set for release later in 2022.
It’s a sprightly and bouncy number with a driving urgency. The “Wonderful, Everything, Wonderful, Always” chorus comes over as a fizzing – and verging on slightly manic – diatribe. It’s raw and energised and taps into elements of shiny ambience mid song before that nagging chorus pops back up with a vengeance. Be prepared to have that phrase – annoy and irritate your friends with it floating around your brain for days. Surely the sort of hook that makes a good single?

The Fierce And The Dead formed in London in back in 2010, with all 4 members originally from Rushden, Northants. With their roots as an instrumental band, they mix in elements from psychedelic rock, old metal records, garage rock, post-rock, prog and shoegaze.
