Inhaler return with their new album, following the release of 2021’s It Won’t Always Be Like This. Does album two hit the spot?
Release Date: 17th February 2023
Label: Polydor Records
Format: CD / Vinyl / Digital
Cuts & Bruises is the highly anticipated second album by Inhaler. Their previous album, It Won’t Always Be Like This, topped the Official Irish Albums Chart in their native Ireland and went straight to Number 1 on the UK’s Official Albums Chart. By doing this, Inhaler became the first Irish group in 13 years to claim a UK Number 1 with their debut album.
The Irish rock quartet open the album with Just To Keep You Satisfied. It is a light tune which showcases the band’s new era as well as maturing in their music. Robert Keating on bass certainly makes the great first impression on the album, along with Josh Jenkinson’s distinctive guitar playing. Just to top it off, Elijah’s vocals on this song are solemn and downbeat but also empowering.
Cuts & Bruises is an absolute pleasure to listen to. Lyrically, there is a deeper meaning to the album; the songs are heartfelt that they create a feeling of healing and looking back on sweet memories.
The instrumentation is precise in the single released in summer of 2022 – These Are The Days. This song live is phenomenal. It gives a feeling of freedom and youth. ‘These are the days/I don’t miss the feeling of being alone/Thеse are the days, thеse are the days.’
Dublin In Ecstasy sees Inhaler in unstoppable mode; it really gets you moving. The band have been teasing this hit since late 2022 at multiple shows; fans have been very impatient on its arrival. No wonder it’s already a fan favourite. “We got high from time to time/I recall the shiver running down my spine.”
To conclude this masterful second album, Eli, Ryan, Robert and Josh have gone above and beyond on the final song Now You Got Me. The song has the perfect outro for a perfect album with the most beautiful lyrics. ‘I’ll go with you/Yeah, anywhere/When lightning strikes/I’m hypnotised.’
Inhaler will be touring the UK during February to promote the album on tour as well as supporting the likes of Harry Styles, Sam Fender and Arctic Monkeys on their tours. You can view their tour dates here.
