Hannah Rose Platt – The Wendigo Rag: Single Review

Amidst the glitter and glamour, sits some Christmas darkness from Hannah Rose Platt.

Having already celebrated a successful 2023 with the Deathbed Confessions album and Hypnagogia EP, Hannah Rose Platt brings the curtain down with the fifth and latest animation from the album.

The video for The Wendigo Rag, animated by William Davies, is a grizzly festive dark comedy. Elaborating on the tale behind this cannibalistic Christmas bonanza, Hannah says:“Wendigo Rag is a grizzly festive dark comedy song about a road trip gone wrong, and the testing of boundaries between friendship vs survival…Beware the cry of the Wendigo folks, or you may be filled with a desire for more than your turkey or nut roast this year!”

The Wendigo Rag has been termed a swaggering goth-rock groover with parallels drawn to the shadowy work of of Nick Cave and Tom Waits. It’s hard not to disagree, especially when the groove, skirting the boundaries of cool cabaret jazz, is accompanied by some striking visuals.

Released in the Spring of 2023 and produced by Ed Harcourt, Deathbed Confessions is a collection of ghoulish ghost stories, melodious murder ballads, and humorous hammer horrors. Inspired by classic horror such as Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone and the BBC’s Inside No 9, Hannah Rose Platt managed to create a kaleidoscope of thrills and chills into this intriguing album.
