Dan Whitehouse – Songs From Voices From The Cones: Video Premiere

We premiere three songs from Dan Whitehouse, performed live at Real World Studios.

Here’s Dan Whitehouse in a live performance of a set of songs from Voices From The Cones, where he talks about and delivers versions of Free Beer, The Old Savoy and Picking Up Sticks.

It’s quite apt that this footage appears in the season of goodwill, with its focus on community spirit, one which also relates strongly to the glass working community of Stourbridge. The songs namecheck several locales and feature a strong vein through which courses the pulse of local industry.

Throughout 2023 Dan developed a narrative that will run through his live shows, that tells the story of his life. One that stretches between two lands: Japan, where his young son lives, and the UK where his work is. It takes in Japanese culture, communication through glass and about the making of glass itself.

Accompanying himself on piano and guitar, Dan dives into songs and stories from the glass making industry and about how the glass of the screens we use every day has changed our lives. Glass – such an artificial subject matter – is breathed into life via Dan’s sonorous Bowie-esque tenor, each song interspersed with narrative leavened by his Black Country delivery.

Dan will soon be announcing A Night Of Glass tour dates for May to October 2024 when he will be touring his A Night Of Glass show, which brings together music from all three of his ‘glass-centred’ albums: Voices From The Cones (nominated for FATEA’s 2022 Innovation Award), The Glass Age and Reflections On The Glass Age.

There will be a mix of solo gigs and also some dates in June and October where he will be joined by Swedish composer Gustaf Ljunggren who will be traveling from Copenhagen where he is based. Gustaf will play with Dan on some of the songs they have worked on together over the years, and a few of his own pieces.
