Spotlight on the debut single from Folk duo Wychbury.
Wychbury’s debut single, Geordie is heading into the world on 5th April, 2024. The track is a fresh take on a traditional English ballad which speaks of the injustice and inequalities between the richest and poorest in our society. A song passed down the generations for hundreds of years, the Wychbury blend of acoustic instrumentation with modern production finds them aiming to “fuse the old with the new, redefining the song for the modern day.”
The combination of intricate finger-picking guitar from Che Bradley and captivating vocals by Rhiannon Kenny-McGrath gives a rustic minstrel quality to their take on the song. While the song may reference the tropes of fair maids, wild deer, milk white steeds and misty mornings there’s a contemporary sense of Hollis Brown wretchedness and inevitability. Words marked, it’s a sensitive and measured arrangement. Look out for the video in the next few days.

Wychbury have been quietly making a name for themselves on the folk scene. They were included in Tradfolk’s article, Young Folk Musicians You Need To Hear, alongside Frankie Archer, Maddie Morris and Broadside Hacks. They have shared the stage with artists including, John Frances Flynn,
