Release Date: 5th April 2024
Label: EMI
Format: CD / Vinyl / Digital / Cassette

The Libertines have made their highly anticipated return with their new studio album; All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade. It follows Anthems For Doomed Youth which was released in 2015.
All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade was set to release in March but got pushed forward. It only took the band four weeks to record earlier this year at Margate’s Albion Rooms. Additional production and mixing was handled by Dan Grech-Marguerat (Lana Del Rey/Liam Gallagher/Paul McCartney) in France.
Album opener, and first single from the album, Run Run Run, is an upbeat tune and sets the perfect impression for the rest of the album. This song would be amazing to hear at a festival. Carl from the band says, “It’s about being trapped, and trying to escape your dismal life, a bit like the man in Bukowski’s ‘Post Office’. The worst thing for The Libertines would be to get stuck in a run-run-run rut, constantly trying to relive our past.” The stories of The Libertines past dominated headlines in the early noughties; it is refreshing to see the band firmly looking forward and seeking to further enhance their legacy.
The indie-rock group make their return prominent with the single Shiver, released in January. It highlights a political message about dealing with the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the accession of King Charles III to the throne.
It’s all too much today
Liz has gone away
With the giant courtesan
With the tiny hands, that love makes
The piano melody is so catchy and memorable, making it a real highlight of the album.
Songs They Never Play On The Radio ends the album. A slower and more mature beat is perfectly accompanied with vocals in the background. The track’s message behind the song is quite literally the song title. The outro of the song creates a warming atmosphere and as a listener it also creates a connection with the band.
The Libertines are back. Their ardent fans who have stuck with the band through thick, thin and in-between have been patiently waiting for their long-awaited return… it’s finally here! The group are a significant band in rock history; their former glory is undeniable, but you can guarantee that All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade will bring in new fans.
Later in 2024, The Libertines will embark on a UK tour to promote the album as well as a summer packed with festival performances in France, Spain and Austria. You can check out the bands tour dates here.
