The phenomenon of Seasick Steve continues. An album of solitude and absence of digital living; “made by mistake, as the title suggests we just tripped and stumbled into it.

The groove in this album catches you instantly and before you know it you’e sashaying around your living room to the cool vibes delivered on this record. The spacious instrumental soundscape perfectly compliments the gnarly grit in Steve’s voice during the opening track and it completely reels you in leaving you waiting in anticipation for the next song. There is an undeniably steady groove in this number which breaks only to impart an important message for the listener, “Move out to the county, it’s time to get offline, Move out to the country, leave your phone behind.. you’re caught in a web.. of their design.”

Second track, Internet Cowboys is pure upbeat country with a vocal delivery bringing to mind the style and feel of the legendary Waylon Jennings.  Again we get a possible peak into Steve’s philosophy of living with a stand out piece that encourages us to switch off and learn about ourselves: “Believe there’s only one way out, shut down that MacBook Air and turn your life about, get yourself a record player or maybe a guitar, spend a little time with yourself, try to find out who you are.”

As we journey though this album, we are taken on a ride through a rich tapestry of sounds, touching on different genres from, country to rock, blues and funk, all with one common denominator- soulful and meaningful vocal delivery by Steve and an outstanding band by his side. His lyrics are intelligent and engaging, so that beyond the bounce and the rhythm there’s a message and story, as we have come to expect from this talented troubadour.

Backbone Slip is a grungy number that is encouraging us all to move our bodies, feel the rhythm and dance! More sashaying , it’s smooth and gritty and sultry all at once. This album is an invite to feel the rhythms in your very bones, to let it move your soul and free you from the inside out. It encourages the listener to put away technology and live life more fully. Its groove is insistent, insatiable and inextricably sexy.

Get yourself a record player and play it loud.

WARNING: may give rise to an incessant desire to move your body.
