An album of music deemed as “a conversation between two opposing approaches toward the same goal: reaching a natural autonomy.”

A vet of the NYC-scene, Bobby Previte employs an expanded conception of the modern drum set, using the powerful orchestrational might of the drum set to create form and meaning. Complementing the drum-work, Knox Chandler’s guitar becomes a tone generator, generating what he calls โ€œsound ribbons.โ€ Together, they’ve constructed two extended pieces divided into a series of sections (White Horse – Moonburn – Hallow – Streamtide – Lost Moon – Bottom Fader – Tick – National Tan – Pan).

Side A brings to mind a contemporary take on the progressive experimental adventures of Tangerine Dream and Emerson Lake & Palmer, with a cinematic bent. Within moments, sounds of Get Carter and The Ipcress File clash with ambient moods of a celestial nature. Guitar lines wind their way around the rhythm in a Belew-esque fashion before a series of more relaxed moods kick in. The same guitar gymnastics are recurring presence; Elephant Talk, stand by!

Side B’s busy patters of percussion vie with deep wandering basslines to open proceedings. A blast or two of improvised chaos seems to be a constant threat, always lurking around a corner. A snare roll promises the introduction of something mighty yet is simply an accent to the chiming guitar notes. The range of dynamics, loud to quiet, pedestrian to frantic, all contribute to what might seem Avant Garde. Yet, the sequence is tightly arranged, from electronic experiments to acoustic complements.

A collaboration between two obviously sympathetic souls that provides a fascinating exploration of moods .
