JUDAS GOATS

A Judas Goat is a term used to describe a goat trained to lead sheep or cattle to their untimely end whilst they survive the fatal trip. Here, it is used to liken politicians who lead the populace astray to meet their own ends, abusing their power. Nevertheless the tune has an appealing jaunty, skiffle like rhythm. Not wanting to name anyone so we donโ€™t get a barrage of complaints, we all know who they may be referring to!

A digeridoo takes centre stage on eponymous track Pelican Babies , which gives the tune a hint of mystery conjuring up โ€˜spirits running free.’ Time Is closes the EP with a delicate sentimental lament. Simple melodic acoustic guitar and sweeping strings accompanies the tune.

Lee Nixon and Mark Connelly compose all the music and lyrics with some collaboration from Hoon Manley.

Pelican Babies are a hidden gem and are a wonderful addition to the new genre of folk music. They may have some traditional links to folk music tunes but their use use on record of strings and digeridoo lend a refreshing flavour to modern folk.
