A MORE THOUGHTFUL SONG FOR CHRISTMAS
It’s always good to hear from our old friends – ‘The World’s Smallest Orchestra’ – Rick Pilkington and Chrissy Mostyn, aka Blackheart Orchestra. We last crossed paths when we caught the duo in concert at Leamington’s bijou Temperance venue earlier this year. Now, we’ve got a typically lush, typically rich seasonal single, Winter Majesty, to warm our cockles.
Speaking of the single, Rick and Chrissy say: “Winter Majesty was written on the Winter Solstice. It’s a new, more thoughtful song for Christmas that questions the hyped-up lights and maxed-out credit cards in favour of being called by the shifting seasons to slow down, to rest, and to reflect upon the wisdom of nature. Winter Majesty beckons us to a crackling fire, to reject outside noise and to follow nature’s lead about the need for deep rest, the company of loved ones and the beauty of things that happen in the long, slow, dark.”
PLEASURES THAT LURK BEHIND THE COLD AND THE DARKNESS
As the title suggests, Winter Majesty is a majestic song: in parts – a stirring anthem, in parts – a warming, comforting reminder of the pleasures that lurk behand the unforgiving cold and darkness of winter. After an enticing harp-like intro, Chrissy’s sweet, conspirational vocals invite the listener into her fire-warmed paradise, before the song explodes into an all-embracing, widescreen chorus: “As the snow is falling down, I never felt so turned around…”
Winter Majesty is a song that takes the dread from the prospect of winter and restores a sense of anticipation.
