Ed Daniels talks about Collaborations: Interview

ย Ed Daniels is the founder of a project called Collaborations.ย He joins us to talk about his work.

BEGINNINGS

Collaborations is more of a project than it is a band.ย ย  It is a project that gets a variety of indie artists together to collaborate in taking a framework of a song (supplied by Ed) and turning it into a high quality well produced end product.ย  The songs have the retro warmth and soul of the 60โ€™s,70โ€™s and 80โ€™s with a modern touch to them.

WHEN IT BECAME REAL

My producer (Vic Steffens ) and I have been working on individual songs for a few years when one day I got inspired by world events and wrote a song called Running Out Of Tomorrows. This song is about how people should respect each other even if they do not agree and we are running out of time to change.ย ย  It ends on a positive note that says we believe that people will meet the challenge.ย ย

When I wrote this song I thought in order to get it to the largest group of people we would have to make it a big production at a higher quality then my previous works.ย ย  So Vic brought in his A team of Artists including Matt Oestriecher who did all the arrangements for the song , while I connect with a few past co-writers to help me with the lyrics Suzanne Kiss, Bonnie Lee Panda, Alex Bach.ย  We then thought based on the intent of the song we really needed to have the proper background vocals so Vic brought in a local Gospel Choir (Kevin Monroe and Devotion).ย  It all came out great and was the start of our project.ย  To date we have over a million vies on our music video on Youtube.

We then continued using the same formula to create an Album of 11 songs called Collaborations โ€“ Songs From The Heart Volume 1

Wehave recently released what we may consider our best song to date.ย  You Gotta Know was co-written by Anais Preller a graduate student at the Berkley School Of Music.

INFLUENCES

ย Our influences are the story telling , Inspirational, uplifting songs of the 60โ€™s, 70โ€™s and 80โ€™s from artists like Carol King, Carley Simon, the Band America,, Mowtown and Earth Wind and Fire.

WHAT’S NEXT

As we continue to add to our catalog we are also trying to get our songs placed in TV or Film.  We are getting some interest and hopefully it will happen soon.   The one thing I will mention is any profits we make from our music all goes to local charities.  We feel this is a good way to give back.
