Preview #2 of the forthcoming album / audio book combo – Moment in the Sun – from Ohio singer/songwriter Matt Palka. Sweet and tender, Gypsy Queen comes across like the Eagles’ song that got away…

INSTANT ATTRACTION
Remember Matt Palka? He’s the guy who recently cycled, camped and busked his way along and across some the highest and most remote roads and routes of the US. His journey took five weeks and he travelled over 2,000 miles, facing hardship and bovine-related adventure along the way. The trip had the desired outcome, though – it put Matt within reach of the soulmate that he’d been seeking all along.
Just about a month ago, we broke the news that, this coming June, Matt will be releasing an album and audio book combo, documenting the trip. The project will be called Moment In The Sun. We enjoyed Oh Angela, the first taster of the joys to come, and we expressed our confidence that further appetisers would be on the way before too long. And we were right.
Second single, Gypsy Queen, tells a story of finding instant attraction. “I sold my motorcycle [so I could buy] a new suit and plane ticket to attend my best friend’s wedding in Los Angeles,” recalls Matt. “Then, I fell for a bridesmaid, and two months later, we drove cross-country to make a new home together.”

PEACEFUL, EASY FEELING...
I’m immediately smitten by the beams of pedal steel that set the peaceful scene for Gypsy Queen. The tune is gentle and lazy – in striking contrast to the passion in Matt’s vocal delivery. Matt’s lyrics: “Sweet Lady, Gypsy Queen – what will tomorrow bring?” are gentle and tender and the production is smooth a silk. Is this, I thought, a song that The Eagles recorded and then misplaced?
First, Oh Angela – now Gypsy Queen. Moment In The Sun is shaping up to be one heck of an album…
