Foretaste #2 of the forthcoming self-titled album from Robertson – the latest vehicle to be commandeered by Aberdeen’s high-flying Byrd, Kevin Robertson. Optimistic and radiating Californian sunshine, Sticking Around sharpens anticipation for the album to a stiletto point.

ROBERTSON – A LUSCIOUS SOUND
Here at At The Barrier, we’re becoming very fond of Aberdeen guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Kevin Robertson. And the fare that he has on offer has brightened many a dull day for us. Kevin’s 2025 album, Yellow Painted Moon, was a solid-gold doozie (and, if your taste is for jangly, sundrenched, Byrds-flavoured psychedelia, then I suggest that you drop what you’re doing and check it out, right now.)
Just a few weeks ago, Kevin slipped us a copy of Birdy In The Window, the lead single from the forthcoming self-titled album by Kevin’s current enterprise, his family-focused trio, Robertson. Robertson comprises Kevin, his son Scott (an equally-accomplished guitarist, singer and songwriter) and their mate, Nick Bertling. And, for Sticking Around, the second foretaste of the Robertson album, the three of them are joined by pedal steel player and bassist Ahren Buchheister and organist/vocalist Tali Trow. And the sound they make is luscious.
SHARPENED EXPECTATIONS
Sticking Around starts as it means to go on. Smooth, and awash with the soothing sound of Ahren’s pedal steel, it’s bright, it’s optimistic and it radiates Californian sunshine. As expected – and eagerly anticipated – the spirit of The Byrds pervades the song like the lettering through a stick of Aberdeen rock. Kevin promises that the Robertson album will be with us very soon. With songs like Sticking Around (and, let’s not forget Birdy in the Window…) whetting our appetites, our expectations are being sharpened to a stiletto point.
Over to you, Robertson!
And you can hear Sticking Around right here. Have a listen for yourself…
