The new single from Charm Of Finches combines their haunting chamber folk with more than a hint of darkness.

CANDOUR IN SONG

For the uninitiated, the Charm Of Finches Bandcamp bio says “they make haunting chamber folk full of beauty and candour for the famished soul.” If that doesn’t describe Bodysuit then nothing does.

A song recorded in Point Lonsdale in Victoria with Nick Huggins and then mixed remotely with Daniel Ledwell in Nova Scotia, Canada, Ivy and Mabel, the Windred-Wornes sisters, explain: “It’s a song about being drawn to the wrong people and a reflection on being enamoured by the danger in romance with unpredictable characters.” Haunting chamber folk AND darkness…a heady mix.

I CAN’T HELP MYSELF

Like the grey gun metal clouds and dry branches of the sapling stripped bare on the promo photo, something wicked this way may well be coming. The fatal pull of a relationship that’s destined to failure, a sense of inevitability as they admit to not being able to help themselves – even provoking a Silence Of The Lambs type horror in the lines:

“You held me close, a little closer, “
Said wanna wear you like a body suit.“

And the threat of destruction and shiver inducing words:

“You held me under the clear water, A little longer than you should“

All contained within the bounds of a initially start yet increasingly lush arrangement where the fragility of combination of voices is exposed by some unanticipated sound samples. One of their more chilling journeys? Possibly.
