Amy Jo – Hypocrite: New Single

Amy Jo previews her upcoming album with a lively new single.

Already an ATB Why I Love contributor, Amy Jo describes her music as relatable, conversational, honest and grounded, with more than a splash of whimsy while we noted her comparison with a “Nashville-era Taylor Swift“. The results will soon be available for all to hear on n her debut album – la da di da, – to be released later in 2026, but the new single gives a hint of what to expect.

WHIMSICAL AND BRIGHT

โ€œI wrote this song with Mary Leay (Becky Hill, Cher) and Callum Mangold-Jackson (producer) back in summer 2024,” Amy Jo says of the song’s origins. ” For all its pitfalls, social media can really bring people together. I had never met Mary, but after a little stalking session, I knew I wanted to work with her. Not only does she have a great track record, but I loved her energy. The three of us ended up in a room together, and pretty quickly, we connectedโ€.

She’s quite effusive about the song which combines what she’s called a whimsical and bright feel with a nod to how we can be judgemental on people without reflecting on or accepting out own contradictions. And yes, she’s spot on with a brisk tempo and adding a lively, ‘less serious’ balance. A vibe that fits perfectly with the album title with a commonality about the almost ever present chorus and alt-folky-y arrangement.

A GATEWAY

โ€œI knew I wanted to write a song about hypocrisy prior to the meet up,” she continues. “Weโ€™re often quick to shame others for their mistakes or pick up on their contradictions, without acknowledging our own. Weโ€™re all human. As much as weโ€™d like to be driven by our morals, the world is such that enacting this mission is complex, and at times, downright messy.

Hypocrite is a song that serves as a gateway into the thematic journey of the project. It goes to say that as a choice to tease the album, if you like Hypocrite, the rest of the album will be right up your street.
