SOUNDS OF THE CITY

Castlefield Bowl’s Summer Series is now in full swing, and Sounds of the City continues to grow year after year. Wet Leg were one of the standout bookings when this year’s line-up was announced, and the Isle of Wight band proved exactly why with a blistering performance on Wednesday 9 July.

ENGULFED IN SMOKE

Walking on to a stage engulfed in smoke, Wet Leg immediately seized control. The Manchester crowd packed into Castlefield Basin lapped up every moment, refusing to let the soaring heatwave dampen the atmosphere as the band tore through an energetic, confidence-filled set.

OLD/NEW

Support came from Mercury Prize winners English Teacher and Theatre, setting the tone perfectly before Wet Leg launched into favourites including Catch These Fists, Wet Dream, Ur Mum, Angelica and the inevitable singalong of Chaise Longue. Newer material such as Pokemon, Davina McCall and Mangetout sat comfortably alongside the band’s established hits, showcasing just how far they’ve come.

A BAND ONLY GETTING BIGGER

There really is something special about this band. Equal parts witty, chaotic and razor-sharp, they delivered a set that felt effortless while keeping the Castlefield crowd in the palm of their hand from start to finish. On this evidence, they’re only getting bigger.
