My Own Will’s new EP is a concentrated blast of modern deathcore brutality, each track striking with precision, weight, and zero mercy.

MY OWN WILL

Hailing from Michigan, USA, My Own Will have spent just over a decade carving out their place in the modern deathcore landscape, steadily building momentum through multiple EPs, a full‑length, and a handful of standalone singles. The Detroit four‑piece have always favoured a bruising, straight‑to‑the‑jaw approach, and that ethos is pushed even further on this fourth EP.

Across its four tracks, the band unleash a barrage of breakdown‑driven violence, serrated riffing, and gut‑puncturing vocal work, resulting in a compact but punishing release that feels purpose‑built to leave listeners winded.

MISERY

The opening number, Misery, arrives with its own video with dark cramped imagery typical of metal’s shadow drenched aesthetic but the song itself is far more vicious than the visuals suggest. What hits first is the bulldozing production and thunderous virtually seismic drum sound.

A catchy opening riff feeds into double kick demolition and breakdown assaults that come thick and fast. Every drop lands with devastating force, bolstered by vitriolic vocals and a relentless pounding beat, that the ninja deathcore faithful will devour. 

RORSCHACH

As famous as the Rorschach test is, the band seem to be using the title as a metaphor for inner perception, a reading reinforced by the silhouetted imagery used in the accompanying video. Whether intentional or not the song itself continues the bombardment established on the opener, this time offering a slight fade-in before the crushing riff work and catchy two-stepping beat deployment.

FORSAKEN

Forsaken has a short eerie atmospheric intro that has a dread filled tone before sliding into riff work that has Suicide Silence and Slaughter To Prevail similarities. The EP’s sheer heaviness is impossible to overstate, every instrument feels like it is pulverising inches from your skull. Though slower than earlier tracks the song loses none of its bludgeoning force, driven by barbaric vocals and a suffocating low end as its final minute erupts into a barrage of breakdown riffing landing with catastrophic weight

PHOBOS

Closing the EP is Phobos and is the only track without a visual counterpart, but it hardly needs one.  It’s brutally dense from the outset, with abrasive riffing and scathing vocal lines that cut a swathe of destruction through the mix. A brief mid-song speed incursion injects a burst of ferocious momentum laced with sharp technicality. The final minute pummels the listener with repeating riffs – an uncomfortably effective, skin‑crawling finish to an already punishing release.

Across its runtime, My Own Will channel pure destructive intent that leaves a crater rather than a footprint proving their deathcore craft is built on unwavering sonic devastation.
