Matt Backer – I Wish You Would: Video Premiere

We have a video premiere of a track from Backernalia – the forthcoming album from guitar slinger Matt Backer. Read on and take a gander at I Wish You Would.

Songwriter and guitarist for hire Matt Backer has added his skills to the work of many big names. Capable of turning his hand to everything from slide blues to jazzy art-rock, the likes of Julian Lennon, Rumer, Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle and Sir Elton John have all made the most of his talents.

He has a solo career running too and his fifth solo album Backernalia is set for release on 21st May by Right Recordings (look out for our upcoming review). We’re chuffed to be able to present a premiere of the closing track from the album, I Wish You Would:

You’ll have to agree it’s an exhilarating version of Billy Boy Arnold’s rhythm and blues masterpiece from 1955, which we all know was made famous by David Bowie on Pin Ups. Incidentally, Billy is still playing at the age of 85…

The Backer version – complete with a splendidly amusing Lockdown video – features Sarah-Jane Morris of The Communards on vocals and a storming ripper of a sax solo from Rob Hughes.
