Quirky East End punks, Third Party Incidents, release a monster!
Release Date: 22nd July 2022
Label: Self release
Formats: Download, Streaming

If you’re a regular attendee at club gigs around East London, or, indeed, anywhere around the south of England, chances are you’ll have come across – and been enthralled by – Third Party Incidents. Initially a two-piece punk outfit, they’ve recently evolved into a four-piece by recruiting a second guitarist and a bassplayer and their sound has evolved to occupy that middle ground between metal and punk. They’ve developed a strong reputation as an exhilarating live act and, on the evidence of this new single, it’s easy to appreciate why.
In their current form, Third Party Incidents are: Tom Schofield on vocals and guitar, Ganesh Rajaram on lead guitar, Tom Freeman on bass and Stefan Hale on drums. Chair is the four-piece outfit’s debut single. In fact, Chair is the first track in a sequence of releases that will take place during the next eight months, when each track from the band’s forthcoming five-track EP will be separately released. And, on the evidence of Chair, we’re in for a drip-fed treat.
The band describe their sound as “Big guitar riffs and a chaotic megaphone overlay,” and if you think that sounds a big quirky, you’d be right – watch the video for proof of that. But, in a way, I can’t help thinking that Third Party Incidents are underselling themselves a tad.
There’s certainly a nice dose of chaos in the bombastic drum and guitar intro to Chair, but the song quickly evolves into something that’s fresh, tight, vibrant, confident and instantly likeable, packed with riffs that are too direct for Deep Purple and too tight for the Sex Pistols. The vaunted megaphone makes its centre stage appearance in the song’s glorious instrumental section, and all hell lets loose!
Chair is a fantastic single, and if it’s a typical sample of what’s to come over the next eight months, then Third Party Incidents can certainly add this reviewer to their growing band of admirers. Watch out for Third Party Incidents – I’ve got a feeling that they’ve got some breathtaking tricks up their collective sleeve!
To celebrate the 22nd July release of Chair, Third Party Incidents will be performing at the Fidler’s Elbow in Camden on 23rd July, alongside French duo The Soap Girls. It sounds like a fantastic evening and, if you’re in the vicinity, I’d strongly advise that you pop along.
