Max ZT & Dan Whitehouse release a live collaboration to commemorate the 3rd Anniversary of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
In a poignant tribute marking the three-year anniversary of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, acclaimed Ten Steps duo Max ZT and Dan Whitehouse release a powerful new live single, Bury One’s Head. This deeply moving collaboration blends Max ZT’s masterful dulcimer melodies with Dan Whitehouse’s evocative lyrics and vocal, creating a sonic reflection on the past while offering hope for the future.
The U.S. departure from Afghanistan on August 30, 2021, concluded a 20-year-long military engagement, leaving a profound impact on both nations. Bury One’s Head encapsulates the complex emotions of this historical moment, providing a space for reflection and healing for those affected by the war.
Bury One’s Head is not just a song; it’s a call to remember, reflect, and learn
Here’s Bury One’s Head live from Real World Studios:
“I wrote this song after witnessing the horrific scenes at Kabul airport in August 2021,” Dan explains. “The chaos and desperation were overwhelming, and I felt it was crucial to document the human tragedy. The song is written from the perspective of a pilot—a skilled person who perhaps once dreamed of flying freely, now forced to carry out a lethal act. I wanted to capture what might have been going through their mind in that moment.”
NYC-based Max ZT, renowned for his innovative approach to the hammered dulcimer, brings a unique soundscape that resonates deeply with the themes of the song. “Music connects us to our emotions and to each other,” he says. “With ‘ury One’s Head,’we hope to honour the memories of those who served and those who were lost, while also inspiring a collective movement towards peace and understanding.”
Bury One’s Head will be available on all major streaming platforms from August 30, 2024.
