SINGLE #3

Hello Chelsea, the forthcoming album from Denver-based singer-songwriter, Holly Lovell, is shaping up to be quite an item.

Hollyโ€™s previous album, Still Frames (2016) brought her music to popular attention and the high expectations that already attended follow-up, Hello Chelsea, on which she contemplates the related subjects of โ€œaddiction, grief, family history, healing and New York Cityโ€ seem to be growing with every foretaste that comes our way. We described Lionโ€™s Den, the albumโ€™s second single release as โ€œโ€ฆa beautifully intimate song that draws the listener right inโ€ โ€“ and now, here comes single #3.  And, if anything, When Did I Lose You is an even tastier morsel than its predecessor.

In common with the themes of the forthcoming album, When Did I Lose You is a song that chronicles the chaos and confusion of relationship disintegration.  Holly elaborates: โ€œThis song is about losing someone little by little, so slowly that by the time you wake up to it, you canโ€™t quite figure out how long youโ€™ve been sitting there alone.  There is a breakdown at the end where we literally recorded ourselves wailing and screaming.  I was worried that it was too much at first, but, in the end, I chose to keep it because when I listen to it, itโ€™s the release of grief from the body.โ€

AN EXCELLENT SONG

When Did I Lose You is an excellent song โ€“ full of passion and excitement; an excitement that builds in an end-of-the-world way as the song enters the cacophonous coda described by Holly.  And the intensity is there right from the start, embedded amongst the simmering guitars, the rumbling bass and the ghostly, swirling keyboard sounds.  Hollyโ€™s voice is intimate and vulnerable, but the anger and bitterness also come through as she sings lyrics like: โ€œYou are the blend of both the best thing and the worst.  Iโ€™d do anything for you โ€“ thatโ€™s always been my curse.  When did I lose you?โ€

Hello Chelsea wonโ€™t be with us until February 2025, but expect these two things: (1) Thereโ€™ll be a few more tasters to enjoy over the coming months and (2) Hello Chelsea is going to be one heck of an album.
