Luke Jackson – Ask Twice: New Single

With no plans to release anything in the immediate future, Luke Jackson takes the plunge with Ask Twice. A song close to his heart and he believes, so many others.

Sometimes a song takes hold, makes an impression and has to be let go into the world.

Last seen just over a week ago at the Manchester Folk Festival, Luke Jackson has a new song out on Friday 4th April. Anyone who saw his gig in the back room of the Castle Hotel will already know if it’s one of his softer solo moments or if he’s ripping it up again with his trio. There’s a clue in the words spoken by Luke about the song. One that’s a reminder to check in on friends & family.

CLIMBING MOUNTAINS

Everyone is climbing their own mountain & so often never talk about it,” says Luke, “so sometimes when checking in on your loved ones, to know how they are really doing, you need to ask twice.”

Back to the gentle acoustic guitar picking with which he made his name all those many years ago even though he’s still a young man, the backing matches the content and the sentiment. From one whose career has spanned beyond a decade and began with the fledgling More Than Boys album, Ask Twice gives a subtle nudge to Luke Jackson of yore who (to paraphrase the song) didn’t know what his future held in store. Not a song he could have written back in those days though yet one which gives perspective to his journey.

I’m lonely whenever I’m alone,” he sings. Not quite, but there’s a very distant hint of a possible crack in the voice as the notes tumble and the memories play out and the fragility emerges. Beautifully observed stuff.
