The Hannas – as Megson – deliver a small but perfectly formed triple helping.

To Get Home – maybe a longing for, what Megson call in one of their signature songs, the smoke of home. Last on our pages with the What Are We Trying To Say album, Stu and Debbie Hanna resurface with one original, one cover, one traditional. A ten minute amuse bouche that leaves the mouth watering for the main course.
Packed with their usual and unusual observations, the title track shuffles gently along, driven by a rustic banjo plunk. Visions of factories and the workforce flow contrast with “what we thought would last could change so fast.” Like a Lowry painting in sound. The harmonies kick in with the more stark arrangement of Jimmy Webb’s Highwayman. Expect not the stereotypical roving blade as the Hannas apply their magic to the results of Webb’s strange dreams and the notion of rebirth
Star baker award on the set goes to the lively guitar and banjo that gives The Welcome Sailor a sprightly swing. Living up to expectations in ticking off the trad. elements of sailor’s travels and travails and a singalong chorus, it shines a spotlight on exactly what Megson does best. The culmination of three songs and a reminder of the flexibility of the Hannas. Megson is still nipping away at the heels.
