Alex Hart on the lessons from University Of Life on the new single, Mistake.

It feels an age since Alex Hart’s Visions album. There’s been much touring with Seth Lakeman and martin Barre plus the impending arrival of anew addition to the family. Meanwhile, a new single sits in the wings.
Mistakes is a new song recorded live with Alex’s full band – guitarist Adam Sweet, Paddy Blight on bass, drummer Joe Harris with extra guitar, banjo and production from Josiah Manning.
INNER WORRIES
โThis song explores the inner worry I had over the past few years,” says Alex. “Iโm at a time in my life where Iโm ready to bring a new life into the world, I didnโt know how to marry up having a career in the music industry, always touring and creating and also how to be a good mother.”
In Mistake, Alex considers the pressure the media has put on women over the years to either choose a career or be at home raising the children, asking the question, why canโt we do both? A bit like Ozzy and Sharon, she’s of the opinion “why canโt we bring babies along for the ride when we need to? Why do we need good grades at college when sometimes itโs more about the university of life that teaches us how to survive and be successful?“
It’s a topic that she clearly feels strongly about and the song itself delivers the message with an easy Country groove with some most pleasant guitar lines sprinkled atop the shuffling tempo. The well earned guitar solo is almost Thompson-esque before a middle eight shifts the vibe briefly then returning to the distinctly bright and breezy atmosphere. Super Summery and lush yet with a clear and thoughtful message.
A lovely prelude to what Alex calls “one of the biggest challenges in my life.”
