A SINGULAR AND IMPRESSIVE TALENT

Hailing from Greenwich, Connecticut, Connor Sobieri is a saxophonist, composer and bandleader. Connor’s music draws its influences from jazz, R&B and rock – influences which he then blends into a smooth, tasty concoction of his very own. He graduated from New York University earlier this year, with a Bachelor of Music (BM) degree in Jazz Studies under his arm and, already, he’s had the opportunity to play alongside such names as Alan Ferber, Melissa Aldana, Ryoma Takenaga and Linda May Han Oh at a range of prestigious venues. Now relocated to Brooklyn, NY, Connor fronts his own – genre-bending – Connor Sobieri Group, as well as working as a sideman in various projects around New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Connor Sobieri is a singular and impressive talent.

Connor has two single releases – Homebase and It’s You – both recorded in collaboration with drummer/composer Julen Rodriguez – to his name. Now, it’s time to take another giant step forward, with Love Song – his debut single release as a bandleader. And, let’s cut to the point right now; Love Song is a triumph. an inspired blend of psychedelic-tinged rock and smooth contemporary jazz. It’s a tune that will occupy many (metaphoric) turntables for quite some time.

A DREAMLIKE VOYAGE

A tasteful, relaxed, drum break sets the pace and mood for Love Song. Connor’s sax takes the listener on a dreamlike voyage through wispy clouds, whilst his band – guitar, drums, bass and vibes – retain a loose anchor to grounded reality. Every aspect of the musicianship in impeccable; Connor’s sax sets a tone of sheer beauty and the guitar – when it cuts loose – sets new standards in both complexity and melodicism.

Love Song is a tune to enjoy over and over. It’s a tune that calms, charms and dazzles. More significantly, it also whets the appetite for whatever Connor Sobieri might have planned for us all next. I think that can confidently expect that great things are afoot for Connor Sobieri.
