Fine Lines – Seven Wonders: Single Review

Acclaimed UK Americana practitioners, Fine Lines preview their forthcoming album. Seven Wonders is an appetising taster that, for four brief minutes, transports the listener to a place that is warmer, sunnier and happier than it is here, right now.

FINE LINES

Fine Lines are a six-piece UK band that specialise is fine, tasteful, roots-based Americana. They’ve made three albums to date, most recently 2021’s Deadbeat Lullabies and we’re due another one very soon… Album #4 will be with us in April. it’s to be titled Coming Home and lovers of quality Americana (a group that includes radio presenters Mark Radcliffe and Matt Spracklen) are advised to watch this space.

Fine Lines take their cue from The Band, Gram Parsons and Bruce Springsteen, but overlay those influences with a flavouring that is distinctly their own. Led by singer-songwriter David Boardman (guitar and vocals) the band also features Tennessee-born Helen Walford on vocals, Gary O’Brien on keyboards, Emily Doggett on fiddle, Jim Broughton on bass and Emily Bailey on drums. New single, Seven Wonder is the first taster of what they have in store for us, come April.

SEVEN WONDERS

Seven Wonders is a deceptively rocky affair, written by frontman Dave and band admirer Mark Radcliffe. Brightly-strummed acoustic guitar and swirls of organ provide a soft-ish intro, before Helen’s voice and Emily’s fiddle kick in. The vocal harmonies are spot-on, whilst electric guitar and joyful fiddle lead the instrumental charge. And, all the while, Jim’s bass and Emily’s drums maintain a solid foundation. Helen’s voice is truly endearing and, for four brief minutes, the listener is transported to a place tat’s warmer, sunnier and a lot happier that it is here right now.

Keep an eye out. Coming Home (the album) will be here before you know it!
