A video premiere of Pearly Gates from Kaspar ‘Berry’ Rapkin for the upcoming Blues From The Land Of The Living album.

A DEEP LOVE
There are those in the know who genuinely believe Kaspar is the most exciting young blues-player in Britain.
A musician with a deep love for all aspects of the genre. He’s equally at home playing North Mississippi trance blues in a duo with drummer Lucy Kate Piper; kicking out the jams with The Almost Allman tribute band; playing solo acoustic Resonator blues a la Son House and Fred McDowell; or on these blistering blues-rock tracks with his trusty and excellent rhythm section, The Swampdogs – Mia Casey on drums and Ian Davidson, bass, backing vox and cello.
We have a first look at the video of the second single from his upcoming Blues From The Land Of The Living right here:
WHAT IF…?ย
Pearly Gates is a highly seasoned serving of heavy gospel-blues, shot through with Kasparโs extraordinarily powerful, snakily skilful guitarwork. Kaspar explains:
โThis song was influenced greatly by my love for old gospel from the Mississippi Delta. One figure came to mind: Pops Staples. He may have been praising God, but he played guitar like he had the Devil in him and he is one of my guitar guides.โ
โI thought โWhat if The Staple Singers wrote a metal song?!โ It has a swampy, picked guitar riff throughout, accompanied by Miaโs rock drums, and it has half time and diminished guitar licks that are a direct draw from some of my heavier influences. People may be surprised that one of favourite artists ever is Slayer, so a lot of that has got into my finger tips.โ
โLyrically – the song is a verbal assault on one of the worst people I have come across in my 26 years on Earth. There are some things you just canโt say to peopleโs faces. I think writing this song has kept me out of trouble! But if should
that person hear it โ the shoe fits and theyโre wearing it!โ
With their stunning forthcoming album, Blues From The Land Of The Living, set for release on 4th September Kaspar and his cohorts are writing a new chapter in the history of British roots-rock.
